Aesthetic Procedures: Botox, Mesotherapy, Restylane/Juvederm,
Galvanic facial
We offer an arrange of non-surgical aesthetic procedures to complement lifestyle
changes and hormone balancing. These minimally-invasive techniques help conserve
and improve the overall facial and body skin elasticity, tightness and overall look.
Aesthetic procedures in our office are performed by Dr. Maiquez. As a Board Certified
anti-aging physician he has performed hundreds of these procedures to enhance the
appearance of the face, lips, neck and body using Botox, Restylane, Juvederm and
Mesotherapy.
BOTOX COSMETIC Approved by the FDA to improve moderate-to-severe glabellar
(frowning) lines, but it is also used for other lines in the face (crow's feet, forehead,
neck, around the eyes and mouth. Botox consists of Botulinum Toxin Type A which is
a neurotoxin complex that blocks the neuromuscular junction and causes muscle
paralysis. Despite the large coverage by the media, Botox is perfectly safe, vastly
used (more than 3 millions treatments only in the US in 2006) and there has never
being a report of death o major complication from Botox cosmetic. Dr. Maiquez
administers the Botox himself to all of his patients and we only obtain Botox directly
from the manufacturer (Allergan).
It is a very gentle procedure that takes about 20 to 30 minutes total time in the office.
Side effects are rare and some patients feel a flu-like sensation the following day. The
effects of treatment are obvious at 2 to 4 days and maximum at 7 days, lasting for
about 2 to 5 months. All the patients Dr. Maiquez has treated are 100% satisfied with
the results.
DERMAL FILLERS (RESTYLANE and JUVEDERM):
Indicated for temporary facial tissue augmentation of wrinkles, lips and chin.
Restylane/Juvederm are used for permanent lines in the face (as opposed to Botox
which is indicated for motion lines). Restylane/Juvederm and other "modern" dermal
fillers have revolutionized aesthetic medicine. It is an amazing non-surgical alternative
to greatly enhance the appearance of the face and neck.
The procedure takes approximately an hour including nerve blocks when required.
Some swelling might be present for the next 2 or 3 days. It is a very well tolerated
procedure with great results that last for about 4-6 months.
MESOTHERAPY This is a technique developed in France by Michel Pistor in the early
1950s, and consists of the delivery of medication directly in the target tissue. The
technique, indications and overall understanding has evolved tremendously during
the last fifty years. Dr. Maiquez uses mesotherapy for the following cosmetic
indications: cellulitis, localized fat (lipo-dissolve for love handles, abdomen, arms,
thighs, back and buttocks), eye bags, submental fat (double chin), buffalo humps. We
also use mesotherapy for the treatment of lipomas or fat tumors.
It consists of a series of several injections of the affected areas using very small
(smaller than an insulin needle) and very short needles. Depending on the extent of
the area, the procedure takes about 30-40 minutes per session. Expect some swelling
and discomfort in the following two weeks that is usually controlled with Tylenol. Eye
bags require one or two sessions, double chin requires 2 to 6 sessions and cellulitis
and body fat (love handles, abdomen, arms, thighs) 4 to 10 sessions.
