Anti-Aging Diet

Many diets have claimed to be the panacea against aging. Although there are no
many scientific studies that compare one diet regimen to the other, it is usually
recommended not to follow any strict diet alone. I recommend a combination of
Low-
Glycemic Index diet (avoiding foods with GI Index above 55) and Paleo diet . Dr.
Hertoghe (see literature) and other authors recommend the Paleolithic Diet with
arguments that the human body is better suited for foods that can be obtained from
nature without much processing, mainly fruits, vegetables and lean meat.

The following recommendations apply for most people who want to make healthy
changes to their eating habits:
  • Eat  regularly. Avoid prolonged periods of fasting and spread the total calories
required for the day into several (four to seven) meals.
  • Drink plenty of water.
  • Avoid eating too late. The last major meal should not be later than 7 pm. If you
are hungry before bedtime eat small amounts of fruits.
  • Eat a balanced diet. Calculate the amount of calories you need incorporating
all major nutrient groups (protein (especially animal), fat (particularly poly- and
mono-unsaturated fats), carbohydrates (especially from fruits and vegetables).
  • Eat organic foods whenever possible.
  • Avoid sweets, alcohol, caffeinated and sweetened soft drinks.
  • Use nutritional supplements when needed.
