Bio-Identical Hormones - Hormone Replacement Therapy HRT
Bio-Identical hormones are exactly identical to the hormones of the human body,
molecule by molecule. They fit the human hormone receptor exactly; the body can
not distinguish between a bio-identical hormones and the hormones it makes itself.
There are multiple hormones involved in the normal aging process. Most of them
start to decrease after we reach the mid- 20s and continue their decline afterward.
Other hormones are more specifically associated with menopause (women) and
andropause (men). Scientific studies have demonstrated that maintaining youthful
levels of some hormones can not only prolong life, but also ease most of the
changes associated with aging (like baldness, lack of energy and stamina, saggy
face, wrinkles, mental sharpness and memory, mood changes, fat accumulation in
the abdomen), menopause in women (night sweats, hot flashes, depression,
vaginal itching/pain, lack of libido) and andropause in men (tiredness, lack of
libido, impotence, inability to ejaculate, loss of muscle mass or tone, difficulty
loosing weight, weight gain, lack of motivation).
When hormones need to be replaced it is recommended to use bio-identical
hormones (with the exemption of HGH which is still under study in the bio-identical
form). These hormones are identical to the chemical structure of human hormones
(as opposed to the ones from horses or other animals, like Premarin). The
followings are the most common hormones replaced for anti-aging purposes:
Human Growth Hormone (HGH)
Female Sex Hormones (estrogens, progesterone, testosterone)
Male Sex Hormones (testosterone, estrogens, DHT and progesterone)
Thyroid
Melatonin
Cortisol
